RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND: Completion of Year 8 Japanese.
COURSE CONTENT:
By the end of year 9 students should be able to communicate about their daily routine, festivals, housing, school, weather and restaurants in Japanese. They should also be able to read and write using all three scripts: hiragana, katakana and kanji using the relative charts as a tool. Cultural aspects relating to the topics are woven throughout the course such as how to order food in a Japanese restaurant and a what a typical school day is like in Japan. An opportunity to visit a Japanese restaurant is also possible this year.
Topics covered at a year 9 level are: Daily Routine, Invitations, Festivals, Housing, School, Weather and Japanese restaurants.
Learning is enhanced by the use of applications such as Duo Lingo, Quizlet and Memrise.
ASSESSMENT:
This course is assessed against the 9/10 achievement standards of the Australian Curriculum for Languages. Assessments tasks include a mixture of reading, listening, writing, speaking in Japanese and reflecting on students own and Japanese culture.
