RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND:
Completion of the full year Music Specialist course in Year 8 (including instrumental tuition) or by audition/interview with the Visual & Performing Arts Senior Leader.
Please be aware that this course varies greatly compared to the Year 7-8 Arts Rotation Music course. Selection of this subject requires the student to have previous knowledge of music through the study in Year 8 Music Specialist, or previous lessons outside of the school. Students will need to speak to Mr Kammermann, Visual & Performing Arts Senior Leader, if choosing this subject without previously learning music.
COURSE CONTENT:
Year 9 Music is a performance-based course whereby students continue learning their ensemble instrument, Students participate in Year 9 ensemble rehearsals and performances, study the theory of music, develop keyboard, listening and critical analysis skills, engage in composition and music technology projects, and explore musical styles and aspects of music history through practical music-making. Instrumental lessons are provided by Instrumental Music teachers to the students in small groups. Students are required to attend a half hour lesson each week outside of their classroom music lessons.
ASSESSMENT:
Students will be assessed against the Australian Curriculum (Music) achievement standards. Assessment tasks include solo and ensemble performances, progress in instrumental technique and music theory tests and/or assignments.
SUBJECT COSTS:
There is no cost for this subject, however students require an instrument. Students who do not have an instrument will need to hire one. Please note that the school has a range of instruments (other than percussion) available for hire at $50 per term. More detailed information can be found in the 2024 Music brochure.
