Year 10 Health and Physical Education

COURSE CONTENT:
During Year 10 Health and Physical Education, students are introduced to the interrelated aspects of Health, Lifestyle and Personal Fitness for overall health and wellbeing now and in the future. Students are encouraged to examine their current lifestyle habits, be physically active, consider the benefits of physical activity for regular sustained exercise, to make better choices in relation to their personal health, and to consider responsible decision making in their choices.
Topics covered are:
Influences on Adolescent Health and Wellbeing: Students will work through the SHINE SA curriculum with a focus on issues in society for Stereotypes and Norms; Identity and Diversity; Relationships and Power, and Risk Taking – Safety and Wellbeing.
Healthy Lifestyle: Topics are; Benefits of Physical Activity, “How active am I?”; Lifestyle and the impact of Technology, Barriers to Physical Activity, and Promotion of Physical Activity.
Personal Fitness: Students participate in fitness testing, a variety of fitness activities, and develop, perform and evaluate a personal fitness program.
Students will be required to change into their PE uniform for practical lessons.
ASSESSMENT:
All assessment tasks will be assessed against the Australian Curriculum achievement standards.
Tasks include:
- Presenting an overview of the benefits of physical activity.
- Developing, implementing and evaluating a personal fitness goal
- Issues analysis – societal impacts on adolescent students
