Stage 2 Ancient Studies

RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND:
Stage 1 Ancient Studies and/or Stage 1 Modern History and/or Stage 1 Legal Studies or another Stage 1 subject such as Stage 1 Language and Literature Studiesor Stage 1 English.
COURSE CONTENT:
This subject involves the study of the literature, history, society and culture of Asia, Europe or Western Asia. In researching and analysing various texts and artefacts, students develop an appreciation for the diversity of attitudes, beliefs, and values in the classical world.
Stage 2 Ancient Studies consists primarily of the study of Ancient Greece, including its culture, literature and history. Topics that will be explored include Ancient Greek religion and mythology, Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey and the Peloponnesian Wars, a civil war which led to the downfall of Greece as the dominant empire of the Mediterranean. Students will also have the opportunity to research any ancient civilisation of their choosing through their Independent Inquiry.

There is no exam in this subject.
