Stage 2 Music Performance: Solo
SACE CREDITS: 10 credits (delivered across the full year)
KEY CONTACT: Steve Kammermann
RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND:
Completion of the performance components of Stage 1 Music (20 credits) or by audition/interview with the Visual & Performing Arts Senior Leader (approximately Grade 4 AMEB or equivalent practical standard).
COURSE CONTENT:
Stage 2 Music Performance: Solo, consists of the following 3 strands: Understanding Music, Creating Music and Responding to Music. Solo Performance gives students the opportunity to extend their technical and performance skills on their chosen instrument. Students attend weekly instrumental lessons with an accredited teacher and maintain regular instrumental practice. This subject encourages the development of aural perception, musical sensitivity and an awareness of style, structure and historical conventions in the solo performance setting. It also encourages the development of personal characteristics such as confidence and the ability to communicate sensitively and work cooperatively.
Students engage critically and creatively with music, and strengthen their musical literacy, through critiquing and evaluating their own performances in an ensemble, interpreting the creative works that they perform, and expressing their musical ideas.
Students experiment with, explore, and manipulate musical elements to learn the art of constructing and deconstructing music. They develop and extend their musical literacy and skills through understanding the structural and stylistic features of music, expressing their musical ideas, and reflecting on and critiquing their learning in music.
This course can be taken in conjunction with Stage 2 Music Performance: Ensemble and/or Stage 2 Music Explorations.
