Information

Aberfoyle Park High School participates in an active international programme which provides our local students, staff and community the opportunity to understand other cultures and to better understand and participate as a member of our local global community.

We host international schools and students both short term and long term. Our international students have the advantage of a co-educational environment, a dedicated and caring staff that have an appreciation of learning principles, student achievement and student well being.

Many of our international students come from China, Japan, Korea, Brazil and Germany who have a limited command of English, an ISEC (Intensive Secondary English Course) programme is delivered in different academic areas. Students then move into or may start mainstream classes with local students and study an ESL (English as a Second Language) course.

Aberfoyle Park High School manages its own homestay programme for short term visiting schools. It has been acknowledged and recognised by visiting schools for its quality and success. For long term students, homestay is coordinated by International Education Services and is supported by the school. For further information on homestay services go to www.internationalstudents.sa.edu.au.

This year (2008) we have hosted two visiting schools from Japan for short term visits. Thirty two students from Kokusai Joho High School in Nigata in term one and twenty five students from Nishinomiya High School in Nishinomiya in term three.

Since the beginning of this year (2008) we have had many long term international students enrol at our school. They have come from Japan, China, Korea, Hong Kong, Germany, France and Brazil. Some of these students have started with our ISEC programme and have moved to our mainstream and ESL programme and many have entered directly into mainstream and ESL programme.

At Aberfoyle Park High School we believe our international programme has grown from strength to strength over the last few years and our involvement in this programme will enrich our students, staff and community and expose us to the cultures of others.
