International Programme

Aberfoyle Park High School is a large school in beautiful natural surrounds, only 30 minutes from Adelaide's city centre.  Our school participates in an active international program that provides our local students, staff and community with the opportunity to understand other cultures and to better understand and participate as members of our global community. We host both short term and long term international students as well as short term visits from international school groups.  Our international students have the advantage of a co-educational environment, a dedicated and caring staff team that have an appreciation of learning principles, student achievement and student well being.

Our international students come from many countries in Asia, Europe and South America.  They stay for between two weeks and three years depending on their program.

1. High School Graduate Program; a long-term program for several years for those students who want to achieve the SACE (South Australian Certificate of Education). Graduate students stay for up to five years in order to complete secondary studies in Adelaide and then have the opportunity to enter Tertiary studies.  Please go to our Curriculum Information link on our front page to see the variety and pattern of subjects that we offer. Graduate homestay accommodation is a service offered by South Australian Government Schools and is supported by the school. For further information on homestay services go to

2. High School Study Abroad Program; a one term up to 1 year program where students experience the Australian way of life while studying at school, then return to their home country to complete high school. Their homestay is also coordinated by International Education Services. This year we have hosted long-term international students from Chile, China, France, Germany, Japan, Korea and the Philippines. Most of these students entered directly into the mainstream and a few started in an ISEC program and then moved to our mainstream and ESL programs.

3. Study Tour Program; groups of students visit to spend up to two weeks in our school to get a taste of Australian life. Ritsumeikan High School is a regular visitor each November and we have also hosted students from Nishinomiya, Kiritappu and Morioka Chuo High Schools. Students from the Study Tour program stay with "home stay" families to experience life in an Australian home.  This program is managed by Aberfoyle Park High School.  The program includes English classes, participation in mainstream lessons, and excursions in the Adelaide area.  The program has been acknowledged and recognized by visiting schools for its quality and success.

If you would like to become a Home Stay family please complete the application form and return to International secretary.

All students have an orientation program and are matched with buddies to help them adjust to school life. There are also opportunities for International students to participate in many of the excursions and some of the tours offered by the school. In the past, students have visited Canberra and Kangaroo Island.

Aberfoyle Park High School is an Apple School of Excellence and laptops are available to all students for use in the school. The school network operates both Mac and PC software.

At Aberfoyle Park High School we believe our international programme has grown from strength to strength over the last few years and our involvement in this programme enriches our students, staff and community by providing exposure to the cultures of others.
